Your data,
our policy.
What we collect, what we don’t, and how to make us forget you. Plain English. No legalese theatre.
Why this exists.
DisclosureUFO is an independent archive of public-record UFO and UAP material. We run a website. To run a website, we collect a small amount of information about visitors. This page explains what we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it — in plain English.
If you only read one section, read this one: we don’t sell your data, we don’t run third-party advertising on this site, and we collect the minimum we need to keep the lights on and improve the archive.
Information we collect.
Analytics data. When you visit a page, our analytics provider records anonymous information about the visit: page URL, referrer, approximate country/region (derived from IP, then discarded), browser type, screen size, and how long you stayed. We do not record your full IP address. We do not fingerprint your device.
Email addresses. If you sign up for the newsletter or request an ebook, we collect the email address you provide and the date you signed up. Nothing else — no name unless you give one.
Tip-line submissions. If you email tips@disclosureufo.com, we receive whatever you send. Email is not encrypted in transit by default. For sensitive material, use a privacy-respecting email provider.
Server logs. Our hosting provider keeps short-term access logs (IP, timestamp, request) for security and debugging. These are rotated and deleted on a rolling basis.
How we use it.
We use analytics to understand which cases people read, which pages need work, and whether the site is broken. We use email addresses to send the newsletter and deliver requested resources. We use server logs to debug errors and stop abuse. That is the entire list.
We do not use your data to train AI models. We do not share, sell, rent, or trade it with third parties for marketing.
Cookies, specifically.
We try to keep cookies to a minimum. The site may set:
- Strictly necessary cookies — session and security cookies set by our hosting provider so the site loads correctly.
- Analytics cookies — first-party, no cross-site tracking, no advertising IDs. Used to count unique visits.
- Preference cookies — if you ever dismiss a banner or set a preference, we remember that locally so we don’t pester you.
You can clear cookies any time from your browser. Doing so will not break the archive — you’ll just see banners again.
Third-party services.
We rely on a small number of vendors to keep this site running. Each one has its own privacy policy.
- Vercel — hosting and edge analytics. They process request logs and aggregate analytics.
- Resend / SendGrid — transactional and newsletter email delivery. They store your email address and delivery metadata.
- Google Analytics — if enabled on a page, GA4 in anonymised mode. We have IP anonymisation on and advertising features off.
- Mapbox — the interactive globe. They receive your coarse location only when you load the map page.
We do not embed Facebook pixels, TikTok pixels, or third-party ad trackers.
Your rights.
Depending on where you live, you have rights over the data we hold about you. The broad strokes are the same in most places.
- Right to access. Ask what we have on you. We’ll send it.
- Right to deletion. Ask us to delete your record. We will, within 30 days, except where we’re legally required to keep something.
- Right to correction. Tell us if something is wrong and we’ll fix it.
- Right to portability. Ask for your data in a machine-readable format and we’ll provide it.
- Right to opt out. Unsubscribe links are at the bottom of every email. You can also email us.
California (CCPA) and EU/UK (GDPR) residents have specific protections under local law. Same email address, same response.
Data retention.
We keep newsletter signups until you unsubscribe. After unsubscribe, we retain a one-line suppression record so we don’t accidentally re-mail you, and delete everything else.
Anonymous analytics are retained for 14 months and then aggregated. Server logs are kept for up to 30 days. Tip-line correspondence is retained as needed for the work; if you ask us to delete a thread, we will.
Children.
DisclosureUFO is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent us data, email privacy@disclosureufo.com and we’ll delete it on receipt.
Changes to this policy.
We’ll update this page when something material changes — new vendor, new collection practice, new legal requirement. The “last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent change. For substantial changes, we’ll notify newsletter subscribers in advance.
